Freeze-Drying Your Yeast Strains

Freeze-drying is a highly effective preservation method achieved through dehydration. With over 70 years of expertise in freeze-drying yeast strains, National Collection of Yeast Cultures (NCYC) provides a trusted solution for long-term culture storage.

We offer a bespoke freeze-drying service, combining specialised equipment with extensive scientific expertise to preserve your valuable yeast strains safely and reliably.

Advantages of Freeze-Drying Cultures

Preservation of bespoke customer yeast strainsNCYC-LabPhotos-AndrewKahumbuPhotography-82.jpg
  • Minimised risk of contamination
  • Suitable for your own R&D protocols
  • Enhanced reproducibility and reliability
  • Reduced storage costs — ampoules remain stable at ambient temperature, eliminating the need for fridges, freezers, or dry-ice shipping

Culture Preservation Using Glass Ampoules

Microbial cultures are freeze-dried in glass ampoules and flame-sealed under vacuum. This proven format is ideal for the long-term preservation of cultures. At NCYC, we continue to use cultures preserved by this method that have remained viable for more than 50 years.

The Process

  1. Choose the number of ampoules required (supplied in multiples of 10)
  2. Select the identification code for your sample
  3. Send us your pure culture
  4. We prepare and preserve the stocks
  5. Following completion of quality control testing, the ampoules are shipped to you
  6. A Certificate of Concentration and Viability for the batch is provided
