Freeze-Drying Your Yeast Strains
Freeze-drying is a highly effective preservation method achieved through dehydration. With over 70 years of expertise in freeze-drying yeast strains, National Collection of Yeast Cultures (NCYC) provides a trusted solution for long-term culture storage.
We offer a bespoke freeze-drying service, combining specialised equipment with extensive scientific expertise to preserve your valuable yeast strains safely and reliably.
Advantages of Freeze-Drying Cultures
Preservation of bespoke customer yeast strains
- Minimised risk of contamination
- Suitable for your own R&D protocols
- Enhanced reproducibility and reliability
- Reduced storage costs — ampoules remain stable at ambient temperature, eliminating the need for fridges, freezers, or dry-ice shipping
Culture Preservation Using Glass Ampoules
Microbial cultures are freeze-dried in glass ampoules and flame-sealed under vacuum. This proven format is ideal for the long-term preservation of cultures. At NCYC, we continue to use cultures preserved by this method that have remained viable for more than 50 years.
The Process
- Choose the number of ampoules required (supplied in multiples of 10)
- Select the identification code for your sample
- Send us your pure culture
- We prepare and preserve the stocks
- Following completion of quality control testing, the ampoules are shipped to you
- A Certificate of Concentration and Viability for the batch is provided
